TRANSPLANTING THE APPLE TREES

Drawn by an instinctive pull, the artist walked through the burned terrain and encountered apple trees that had endured decades of seasons, now reduced to charred remains. Several of these trees were uprooted and transplanted into new soil, placed beside living apple trees.

자연적인 이끌림으로 화재 현장을 걷다 수십 년의 세월을 품고도 끝내 숯이 된 사과나무들을 마주했고 나는 그것들을 새로운 땅으로 옮겨 살아있는 사과나무와 함께 뿌리째 심었다.

THE APPLE TREES IN AMBER GARDEN

Returning the blackened fruit to the scorched branches became both an act of mourning for lost life and a gesture that symbolically returns all things to a state of absolute nothingness—a zero base from which form dissolves. The trees and their fruit gradually disintegrated into dust and ash. Yet from those remnants, new shoots began to emerge, nourished by what had once existed. What unfolds is a cycle of dissolution and regeneration—new life arising from the void.

타버린 가지에 역시나 검게 탄 과실을 달아주는 것은 죽은 생명을 안타깝게 여기는 연민이자 모든 것을 완전한 '제로 베이스'의 무(無)로 환원시키는 과정이다. 그 완전한 무(無)로 돌아간 나무와 열매는 부서지고 재가 되었다. 그리고 나는 그것을 거름 삼아 다시 돋아난 새싹의 자양분으로 순환하는 일련의 과정을 목도하였다. 완전한 무에서 피어나는 새로운 탄생이었다.

Beyond the act of physical transplantation, the work visualizes the self-regenerating force of nature, the responsibility carried by human existence, and the transformations that life undergoes through time.

Even within the helplessness left by catastrophe, the work opens a moment of reflection on the quiet yet persistent vitality through which nature ultimately restores itself.

단순한 물리적 이식을 넘어 자연의 자생적 회복력과 인간이 지녀야 할 책임감 그리고 시간의 흐름에 따른 생명의 변화를 시각화한 이번 프로젝트를 통해 거대한 재난이 남긴 무력함 속에서도 기어이 치유해 내는 자연의 힘에 사유의 시간을 갖게된다.

THE APPLE TREES IN EMBER GARDEN

The trees and fruits, having returned to complete nothingness, crumbled and turned to ash. And I witnessed a series of processes in which that ash became nourishment, cycling back as sustenance for new shoots that had begun to emerge. It was a new birth blooming out of absolute nothingness.

그 완전한 무(無)로 돌아간 나무와 열매는 부서지고 재가 되었다. 그리고 나는 그것을 거름 삼아 다시 돋아난 새싹의 자양분으로 순환하는 일련의 과정을 목도하였다. 완전한 무에서 피어나는 새로운 탄생이었다.
