“One dictionary defines the word ‘mystery’ as: any affair or thing that presents qualities so obscure as to arouse curiosity or speculation. It is that quality in fine art that keeps the viewer intrigued with the image on the canvas. While an artist might be highly technically proficient, the interest of the viewer is not maintained if the picture is too clearly drawn for him. Yang is technically adept, and she is also able to hold the viewers’ attention at length by presenting images that pose a question ‘Who?’ , ‘What?’, ‘Why?’ – and as she transitions toward greater abstraction, the mystery become deeper. It is fortuitous that she is also able to formulate her images with homage to her classical heritage such that the viewer always benefits from her innate color sense and talent for creating a well balance form.”

한 사전에서 “신비”를 다음과 같이 정의하고 있다. “어힌만사건이나 사물이 매우정통성에도여 호기심이나 관찰을 유발시키는 것.” 이것이 순수미술 작품에 관람자로 하여금 꾸준히 관심을 갖도록 매혹하는 측면이다. 한 아티스트가 기술적으로는 훌륭하더라도 관람자의 관심을 끌 수 없을 수도 있는데 그것은 그 작품이 지나치게 관람자에게 설명을 하고 있을 때 그렇다. 양순열의 경우, 그의 기술은 숙련되었지만 동시에 관람자의 관심을 충분한 시간 동안 끌 수 있어 “누가”, “무엇을”, “왜”라는 질문을 하도록 유도하고 있으며, 나아가 더 깊은 추상으로, 즉, 신비함을 더해간다. 이에 더하여, 그가 미술의 정통성에도 충실하여 타고난 색체 감각과 함께 균형 잡힌 형태를 표현하기 때문에 관람자는 차별화 된 감상의 기회를 갖게 된다.
